Laws and jail sentences have a long way to go to fit the crime of sexual assault. The victim is changed forever, no amount of therapy can completely undo the damage. Yet offenders, child rapists even, get multiple chances to re offend. The victim gets no second chance at having her or his life back the way it was. In the case of child rape, or years of incest, the victim's life has literally been ripped from them. Judges, juries, families, communities, government, we all need to step up and take responsibility for our actions, or our inaction. This is not somebody else's battle. This is not a crime like stealing or forgery or tax evasion; sexual assault is a crime that ends peoples lives. Mentally, emotionally, and often physically and certainly spiritually, a life is taken away.
